As far back as the 18th century
the virtues of Spanish horses have been praised. The Duke of Newcastle
defines them as every horseman's dream.
"The noblest of all horses,
and the grandest ones ever. They are noble hearted, docile yet courageous.
They exhibit the most spirited and proud trot, not to mention the
best and haughtiest gallop. In short, they are most fit for a king
on his day of victory".
